Min distance to anchor: 200mm
Loading:
360° including tensile loading
Tools Needed For Installation:
Rotary hammer drill, masonry drill bit 18, reo detector, spanner, bar
Installation Steps:
1. Use Hilti Reo Scan or similar device to avoid drilling the steel reinforcement in concrete.
2. Mark the position for hole to be drilled.
3. Drill one M18 through hole. Ensure the hole is 90° with the drilled surface.
4. Install AA400T with the large (120mm diameter) backing plate on the inside.
5. Install an M16 washer and lock nut and tighten fully when installing in concrete. When installing in cavity walls, do not overtighten and use a spacer tube to avoid collapsing the cavity. Ensure minimum of 5 threads are showing when fully tightened.
Proof Load and Certification:
Through bolts must be visually inspected upon installation and annually as per AS/NZS 1891.4:2025. Do not proof load – visual inspection only!
Where to Use a Through-Bolt Anchor Point
- Reliable in Various Environments: Works well in high-stress environments such as construction, maintenance, and industrial applications.
- Permanent & Secure Fixing: Once installed correctly, through-bolt anchors offer a long-term, durable anchoring solution with minimal maintenance.
- Compact & Low-Profile: These anchors don’t take up much space and can be installed without interfering with other structural elements.
- Load Distribution: The design helps distribute load forces efficiently, minimizing stress on the mounting surface.
Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the effectiveness of through-bolt anchors. Important factors include:
- Surface Assessment:Â Ensuring the concrete or masonry substrate is strong enough to support the anchor.
- Correct Drilling Techniques:Â Using the appropriate drill bit size and depth to achieve a secure fit.
- Torque Application: Applying the specified torque to ensure the anchor’s holding capacity.
Safety Compliance
Compliance with safety regulations and industry standards is vital. Regular inspections and maintenance of anchor points help maintain their integrity and ensure ongoing worker safety.
Through-bolt anchors play a crucial role in securing workers at height, offering reliability and flexibility for various applications. Proper installation and compliance with safety guidelines are key to maximizing their effectiveness.
