The AA401 Eye Nut comes with a 10-year warranty from the date of purchase, provided it is correctly installed, used, and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations.
Tools Required
- Rotary hammer drill
- 14 mm masonry drill bit
- Air pump
- Cleaning brush
Important Considerations
- When installing through a waterproofing membrane, apply a full gasket of compatible sealant between the eye nut and the membrane to maintain the integrity of the waterproofing.
- All chemical and friction anchorages must be proof loaded before their initial use and subsequently on a regular basis to meet the requirements set out in AS/NZS 1891.4:2009 and AS/NZS 4488.2:1997.
- Proof load the eye to 7.5 kN for fall arrest applications.
- Proof load the eye to 6 kN for rope access applications.
- Through bolts must be visually inspected; do not proof load.
Standards Compliance:
The AA401 Eye Nut complies with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011 and relevant Codes of Practice, including:
- AS/NZS 1891.4:2009
- AS/NZS 4488.2:1997
- ISO 22846 (2003)
- AS/NZS 5532:2013
Installation Steps for M12 Chemset in Concrete
- Use a Hilti Reo Scan or similar device to detect and avoid drilling into steel reinforcement within the concrete.
- Mark the position for the hole to be drilled.
- Drill a 14 mm diameter hole to a depth of 110 mm, ensuring the hole is perpendicular (90°) to the surface.
- Clean the hole thoroughly three times using compressed air and a cleaning brush.
- Insert a Hilti HVU M12 chemical pack into the hole.
- Using a rotary hammer with the appropriate setting tool, install a stainless steel M12 rod. Ensure the rod has a 45° angled tip or use Hilti rods suitable for the application.
- Allow the chemical anchor to cure as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Apply a fastener locking agent, such as Loctite 277 or equivalent, to the threads before installing the AA401 Eye Nut. Ensure a minimum of three threads are visible after installation.
